Climate change and energy transformation will guide the 14th edition of the PSR / Canal Energia Workshop, a traditional event on the Brazilian electricity sector’s agenda, which will be held on March 12, in Rio de Janeiro. Led by Mario Veiga, founder and director of Innovation at PSR, and Luiz Barroso, CEO of PSR, the meeting will offer information and discussions on market trends in the coming years, in the areas of generation, transmission, distribution and commercialization of electric energy, in addition to the opportunity to interact with the PSR team of experts.

“In its workshop, PSR brings the state of the art of the global energy discussion to the Brazilian context, helping to identify business opportunities and risks to be analyzed. It is an event for those looking to be at the forefront of global energy discussions”, explains Barroso.

With the theme “Polycrises and polyopportunities: tortoises, climate and energy transformation”, this year’s edition of the workshop will address recent issues in the sector, such as the effects of extreme weather events on networks, renewable spillover and the renewal of distribution concessions; to recurring market issues, including the balance between supply and demand and energy price projections.

“In this edition, we will discuss both sides of the climate issue. On the one hand, how the Brazilian electricity sector can contribute to mitigating global emissions through the electrification of new sectors of the economy; on the other, how to adapt the electricity sector to the ‘new abnormal’ of extreme winds, rain, temperatures and droughts”, says Veiga. “We will also analyze the impact of anti-climate policies and market closures in Europe and the US for the export of green products such as green steel and low-carbon hydrogen. And we will exchange ideas and experiences with participants about the regulatory, technological and energy policy agenda that we published in the January edition of our Energy Report”, he adds.

“Since I started my career in the electricity sector, ten years ago, I have always considered the workshop to be one of the most important events for providing information and qualifications on topics in the sector. This year, the workshop will seek to address overwhelming issues that have arisen in the market, with emphasis on dynamic debates led by our CEO together with the heterogeneous team of experts that only PSR has,” she states.

The program will feature an opening talk by Mario Veiga. Then, the debates will be divided into four blocks that will address the challenges of global warming and energy transformation; the regulatory agenda for the electricity sector in 2024; the structural vision of the sector, considering market design, technological aspects and resilience of network assets; and energy supply and demand scenarios, security of supply, renewable supply and price projections.
