Decarbonization scenarios in Latin America and the Caribbean

The new edition of Por Dentro da PSR (Inside PSR) is now on air. In the episode, journalist Rodrigo Polito talks to João Pedro Bastos, head of PSR’s international market studies, about the decarbonization study of the 18 member countries of the Development Bank of Latin America and the Caribbean (CAF).
Conducted by PSR’s international studies team, the project involved the preparation of energy supply expansion plans for each CAF member country. The study considered two scenarios: a reference scenario and another for energy transition, thus totaling 36 expansion plans. Furthermore, the research incorporated an analysis of the regulatory and institutional framework and the development of an action strategy for the CAF.
To carry out the supply expansion scenarios, PSR’s OptGen (generation expansion) and SDDP (long-term electrical dispatch optimization) computational tools were used.
The results obtained in the study will help CAF in financing the energy transition in Latin America and the Caribbean.
