PSR presents decarbonization study for 18 Latin American and Caribbean countries at the IX OLADE Energy Week

The IX Energy Week of the Latin American Energy Organization (OLADE) was held in Asunción, Paraguay, from October 28 to November 1. It is one of the main events on the continent’s energy schedule. OLADE’s Energy Week is a renowned forum for discussing the challenges and opportunities in the industry, bringing together authorities, academics and professionals from the sector.
On the occasion, Silvio Binato, from PSR’s International Studies area, presented the results of a study developed for the Development Bank of Latin America and the Caribbean (CAF), in partnership with MRC Consultants and Transaction Advisers. The aim of the study was to outline a long-term vision for the decarbonization of the electricity sector in 18 Latin American and Caribbean countries. The study assessed the actions and investments needed for each country to achieve decarbonization goals over the next 30 years, using two scenarios for expanding generation and transmission systems: a reference scenario and an energy transition scenario with explicit decarbonization commitments. This approach resulted in 36 expansion plans, allowing the quantification of the costs required to achieve a more sustainable generation mix over the coming decades.
The presentation was made to a select audience of authorities and representatives of companies and research institutions in the region. Daniel Costa, also from PSR’s International Studies area, participated in the preparation of the study and was present at the event representing the company.
PSR’s participation in the IX Olade Energy Week demonstrates the company’s active role in key discussions on the opportunities, challenges and trends of the energy transition in the region. This involvement reflects its commitment to academia and industry in the search for sustainable solutions to the current and future energy challenges of Latin America and the Caribbean.
